It's difficult to say, but any sort of mess or disturbance which you would consider out of place would be helpful to know.

I'm a traveller that just got here today and will probably be gone tomorrow. I don't exactly have much to report.

You see, sir, I have absolute faith in my master, and he has told me that you are a demon. But you do not show the usual signs of one, and so I am very curious why not.

"Kinship" might be pushing it. It's more of a proximity thing.

Even so, it is a detail I have never heard of, nor felt myself. Would you tell me about it?

I'm from really far away. I guess it's just not a thing here. There's not much to tell, except that I can identify other demons and spirits.

Spirits, as well? So in your lands, the nature of demons is different? And the manner of producing them?

There are a lot of different kinds of demons where I'm from, and spirits, and ghosts. The lines blur.

How are they made?

I don't think they're "made"...

Well... I was born when my progenitor died and one of his cuttings was planted? Since I'm a tree spirit. But some are just animals that lived a long time, or the ghosts of people or things with grudges, and some just kind of happen on their own.

So it's completely different. You were never human at all, sir?

[wrinkles his nose a bit at the idea.]

No, I was definitely never human.

How curious. By my prior understanding of demons, that would be nearly impossible, as the source of it is itself humanity. I'm not sure how to reconcile that with what you've told me. My master is much smarter than I am, so I should tell him of this. Or perhaps you should tell him of this, seeing as your knowledge of it is of course much greater than mine.

I've already told you pretty much all I know.

Nonsense, I can think of plenty of questions you have not answered which should be simple.

Are you nervous? I noticed that you do not seem to like being compared to humans, perhaps that also extends to being in their company?
